— AAA predicts 37.2 million Americans will go more than 50 miles from home.

— The organization says 31 million people are traveling by car.

— About 4.2 million are predicted to get on airplanes.

— And 1.9 million will take buses, trains and boats.

CARS — BY REGION

— The greatest number of people on the road are coming from the West, according to AAA.

— About 7.4 million car travelers are leaving from the West.

— About 6.7 million will be from the Southeast.

— About 6.6 million from the Midwest.

— About 5.8 million from the Northeast.

— About 4.6 million from the Great Lakes.

WHERE ARE PEOPLE GOING?

— Cities - 25%

— Small towns and rural areas - 23%

— Ocean/beach - 15%

— Mountains - 11%

— Lakes - 10%

— State/National parks - 5%

— Amusement parks - 1%

GAS PRICES

— Average about $2.15 a gallon.

— That's 15 cents higher than last year's Memorial Day. But it's down 9 cents from last month.

OTHER COSTS

— Flights this weekend cost about 10% less (on average) than last year.

— Hotel rooms cost 10% more than last year.
