BAGHDAD, Iraq – DEFENDANTS:

-- Saddam Hussein: former Iraqi president.

-- Barzan Ibrahim: Saddam's half brother, Iraq's intelligence chief at time of Dujail killings.

-- Taha Yassin Ramadan: Iraqi vice president 1991-2003.

-- Awad Hamed al-Bandar: Head of Iraq's Revolutionary Court, which issued death sentences against 148 Dujail residents.

-- Abdullah Kazim Ruwayyid: Baath Party official in Dujail region, believed responsible for Dujail arrests.

-- Ali Dayih Ali: Baath official in Dujail region.

-- Mohammed Azawi Ali: Baath official in Dujail region.

-- Mizhar Abdullah Ruwayyid: Baath official in Dujail and son of fellow defendant Abdullah Kazim Ruwayyid.

CHIEF JUDGE:

-- Raouf Rasheed Abdel-Rahman. He replaced Rizgar Amin, a fellow Kurd, in January 2006. Amin resigned after Shiite politicians complained he failed to control the court. Saddam's lawyers accused Abdel-Rahman of bias and threatened to boycott the trial unless he also stepped down. Abdel-Rahman's hometown of Halabja was subjected to a 1988 poison gas attack allegedly ordered by the former president.

CHIEF PROSECUTOR:

-- Jaafar al-Moussawi, a Shiite Muslim from southern Iraq, oversees a team of 18 prosecutors as head of Iraq's highest court. He serves as chief prosecutor in the Dujail trial, as well as in Saddam's separate genocide trial for alleged killings of Kurds in the late 1980s.

DEFENSE TEAM:

-- Raghad Saddam Hussein: Eldest daughter of deposed Iraqi leader. Was married to Hussein Kamel, who defected to neighboring Jordan in 1995 and was killed with his brother upon their return to Iraq in 1996. Raghad and her younger sister, Rana, fled to Jordan shortly after the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. In August 2005, Raghad fired most of Saddam's first legal team. Some former members have accused her of behaving erratically and interfering with Saddam's defense.

-- Khalil al-Dulaimi: Chief lawyer for Saddam. Baghdad lawyer and member of the Iraqi Bar Association.

-- Ramsey Clark: U.S. attorney general for three years during Johnson administration in the 1960s. Staunch war opponent who has met with Saddam several times in the past 15 years and serves as outside adviser to legal team.
