ELMER "GERONIMO" PRATT — The Black Panther leader was convicted in 1972 of murdering a schoolteacher and sentenced to 25 years to life. Cochran lost that case but continued to work to free Pratt. The conviction finally was overturned in 1997.

JIM BROWN — The former Cleveland Browns football great was accused of raping a schoolteacher in 1985. The charges were dismissed.

TODD BRIDGES — The former star of TV's "Diff'rent Folks," charged with shooting and stabbing an alleged drug dealer at a Los Angeles crack house in 1989, was acquitted of a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

MICHAEL JACKSON — The pop star settled a lawsuit filed by a teenage boy who claimed the singer molested him in 1993. The settlement figure has never been officially disclosed, but some reports put it at $25 million.

TUPAC SHAKUR — The rapper was convicted in 1994 in New York of sexually abusing a woman he had invited to his hotel room. He was sentenced to 41/2 years in prison. He was acquitted of sodomy and weapons charges.

O.J. SIMPSON — Accused of the 1994 murders of his wife and her friend, Simpson was acquitted in a trial at which Cochran noted his client apparently couldn't don a pair of gloved believed used by the killer. "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit," he said of the prosecution's case.

SNOOP DOGGY DOG — The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was acquitted in 1996 of being an accessory to the murder of a man who was shot by his bodyguard. The bodyguard also was acquitted.

ABNER LOUIMA — The Haitian immigrant alleged he was beaten and sexually tortured by white New York police officers in a police bathroom after his 1997 arrest during a brawl outside a Brooklyn nightclub. The city and a police union agreed to pay Louima $8.75 million to settle a civil lawsuit.

SEAN "P. DIDDY" COMBS — Combs was arrested in 1999 and charged with gun possession and bribery after a shooting at a Manhattan night club. Victims testified that he shot them and fled with his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. He was acquitted.
