One woman wishes she could forget the bearded man she says pointed a rifle at her roommate in a North Carolina nursing home.

Others who were there aren't able to remember much at all.

Many are sick or elderly patients who aren't quite clear about what happened when a gunman opened fire, leaving a nurse and seven residents dead.

One survivor is obviously foggy about the events, noting only that there now seem to be a "lot of strange people" at the nursing home. Her son has decided not to tell her anyone had been killed.

But a social worker is warning staffers not to mistake residents' silence for serenity. She's telling everyone to look closely for signs of depression and subtle changes in behavior.
