Excerpts from the 27-page "The Book of Immanuel David Isaiah," dated April 6, 2002 (including misspellings). Authorities say they believe it is the work of Brian Mitchell, suspected of kidnapping Elizabeth Smart last year:

"Yea, even Jesus Christ speaking by the voice of my servant whom I have called and chosen to be a light and a covenant to the world in these last days. I have called him and given him a name to be had in remembrance before me, even the name Immanuel David Isaiah, which name being interpreted means: God with us -- Beloved of God -- The Lord is salvation -- signifying the deliverence (sic) that shall come to my people by my mighty hand in these last days. ..."

"And my prophets sought with great diligence to restore the law unto them but the people and the church would not receive it. And in consequence of their continued disobedience, I, the Lord god took away from my church the fulness (sic) of the new and everlasting covenant of marriage, and I commanded them to have one wife only. Wherefore, they received a lesser law and a lesser blessing. Nevertheless, I, the Lord God am merciful and just and I know the hearts of my children, and I restore every blessing lost to them so long as they sin not against the Holy Ghost. ..."

"Therefore, Hephzibah Eladah Isaiah, thou art called and chosen to be a helpmeet unto my servant Immanuel David Isaiah, and to be his wise counselor and best friend, and to be submissive and obedient unto thy husband in all righteousness, and to be a comfort and a strength and a companion to thy husband in every time of trial and affliction unto the end. ..."
