A Utah County doctor has been sentenced to 120 days in the Utah County jail and three years of probation for trading prescription drugs for sex.

In October Max Cannon pleaded guilty to two felony counts of distributing a controlled substance and two misdemeanor counts of prostitution. Eight other charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Cannon, who lost his medical license, was arrested in January 2008 after a sting operation at a Provo motel.

Cannon, of Salem, has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and his attorney on Tuesday asked the court for no jail time.

But 4th District Court Judge David Mortensen said Cannon should have known the effect prescription medications can have on people who don't need them.
