ERIE, Pa. – A district attorney says no crimes were committed by officials at a Pennsylvania hospital when an 18-year-old Ohio man's organs were harvested.
Erie County District Attorney Brad Foulk said Friday that he reviewed medical files from Hamot (HAM'-ut) Medical Center in Erie. He says the hospital followed proper procedures when they declared Gregory Jacobs dead and got permission to take his organs in March 2007.
The teen's parents, who live in Bellevue, Ohio, are suing the hospital, the Pittsburgh-based Center For Organ Recovery and Education, and various doctors. They claim medical officials hastened his death so they could harvest his organs.
Officials being sued say they used proper procedures and deny wrongdoing.
