Selena Gomez, considered the newest rising star of the Disney Channel, has pledged to abstain from sex until marriage, according to "Extra."

The "Wizards of Waverly Place" star, 15, reportedly asked her father to get her a promise ring, saying that "he went to the church and got it blessed. He actually used me as an example for other kids. I'm going to keep my promise to myself, to my family and to God."

Gomez's first acting role was on the television show "Barney and Friends." Besides "Wizards of Waverly Place" and the upcoming Disney Channel movie "Princess Protection Program," she also starred in the movie "Horton Hears a Who!" with Steve Carell.

Gomez will be featured in the July issue of Seventeen magazine.
