BATON ROUGE, La. – Political heavyweights and more than 2,000 visitors head to Baton Rouge this week for the National Conference of Black Mayors annual convention.
Four Democratic White House hopefuls, 640 mayors and a host of big-name celebrities, including actor Danny Glover and singer Harry Belafonte, are expected to attend.
The conference will feature a parade of Democratic presidential hopefuls. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., was scheduled to address the conference at a luncheon on Wednesday, but a conference official said late Tuesday that Clinton may not be able to make the luncheon. Tori Allen of Brainchild Associates, which is handling conference publicity, said Clinton will definitely address the conference at some point this week.
Another presidential candidate, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, is slated to visit later this week, followed by former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina on Friday and Sen. Barack Obama on Saturday.
