A Delaware man is in an upstate New York jail in connection with the killing of a police officer during a $1 million jewelry store heist.

A Utica judge entered a not guilty plea Wednesday on behalf of 31-year-old Robert Ward of Smyrna, Del.

Ward faces 19 charges, including second-degree murder and robbery. He's due back in court Tuesday to be assigned an attorney.

Authorities say Ward was one of the four men involved in the jewelry store robbery that ended with New Hartford Police Officer Joseph Corr's death in February 2006.

One suspect was killed by federal marshals outside Philadelphia. A second man involved is in prison. The case against a third suspect is pending.

Authorities have said the group carried out armed jewelry store robberies up and down the East Coast.
