Police are investigating a fight that broke out between two men during a Boston Pops concert this week and will refer the case to a magistrate to determine if charges are appropriate.

No charges were filed after Wednesday night's incident, which drew international attention, including jokes on "The Tonight Show."

"We have a detective reviewing the incident, and the two gentlemen will be summonsed into court in front of a clerk magistrate," police spokesman David Estrada said Friday.

The brawl on the Pops' opening night at Symphony Hall led conducter Keith Lockhart to briefly halt the performance, which later featured a guest appearance by rocker Ben Folds.

The Boston Globe reported Friday, citing a police report, that one of the men, Matthew Ellenger, 27, of Boston, told officers the incident began when he told another concertgoer, Michael Hallam, 44, of Bourne, to be quiet during the performance. Ellenger told police he repeatedly asked Hallam to stop talking and that Hallam punched him after the two bickered, the police report said.

Hallam did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press on Friday night. The Globe said it could not locate him for comment.

Ellenger said Friday he was considering whether to file a complaint against the other man.
