The search is on for the captain of a New Bedford-based fishing vessel who was lost after the boat capsized off the coast of Cape Cod.

The 71-foot Costa and Corvo started experiencing trouble at about midnight on Thursday roughly 115 miles east of the Cape, a Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

Another fishing vessel, the Mary K, was first on the scene and rescued three crew members from the water but was unable to locate the captain. His name was not immediately released.

A Coast Guard jet and helicopter assisted in the search and two cutters are en route to the scene.

The three rescued crew members were not seriously hurt and remained on the Mary K after being evaluated by the Coast Guard.
