A timeline of key events in the murder of Bonny Lee Bakley and investigation of Robert Blake:

— May 4, 2001. Bonny Lee Bakley, 44, is shot to death a block from a Studio City restaurant where she and actor Robert Blake had dined.

— May 5, 2001. Blake says the shooting occurred while he was returning to the restaurant alone to retrieve a handgun that he left behind. Blake's lawyer Harland Braun says he was carrying the gun because his wife feared for her life.

— May 6, 2001. Police serve warrant at Blake's house, recover two 9mm handguns and seize phone records and other paperwork.

— May 8, 2001. Information surfaces that Bakley claimed a child by rock 'n' roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis and a sexual liaison with Christian Brando.

— May 9, 2001. Braun describes Bakley as a celebrity-obsessed woman and releases letters showing she ran a lonely hearts business swindling men out of money. In many of the letters she offered nude photographs of herself for sale.

— May 11, 2001. Blake's bodyguard Earle Caldwell tells police he believes whoever killed Bakley really meant to shoot someone else. Police dismiss that scenario as ridiculous. Caldwell also says police gave him the impression they believe the actor killed his wife. "They're already cooking his goose," he says.

— May 14, 2001. Police ask media to refrain from tainting the investigation by reporting on rumors or interviewing potential witnesses. The statement follows the release of tape recordings Bakley made of herself discussing whether to claim that Blake or Christian Brando was the father of her newborn daughter.

— May 17, 2001. Blake calls off a family-only service for his slain wife when a media mob descends at the funeral home.

— May 25, 2001. Bakley buried as a somber Blake stands before the casket and pays tribute to her for bringing their baby into the world.

— June 2, 2001. Braun says he has dispatched two investigators across the country to interview members of Bakley's family and anyone else who might be able to shed light on her killing.

— Aug. 24, 2001. Blake says he plans to sell his "Mata Hari Ranch," saying the home he shared with his wife had become too much of a ghoulish attraction for him to stay there.

— Jan. 13. Los Angeles police say they've made significant progress in the eight-month investigation after sifting through videotapes, photographs, letters and other documents that belonged to Bakley.

— April 18. Blake arrested at the home of his sister in suburban Hidden Hills.
