Three Chicago businesses went up in flames early Friday morning, leaving three firefighters injured.

The fire began 5:15 a.m. at the Red Basket Restaurant and spread to other businesses in the one-story building, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters on the scene braved thick, black smoke, with one firefighter sliding down a ladder above the flames. He is in good condition at Resurrection Hospital. Two other firefighters also sustained minor injuries fighting the fire. None of the injuries are life threatening.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
