Challenging Rep. Nancy Pelosi: Rep. Mike DeNunzio Talks with 'H & C'

ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: A page tonight from the “Hannity & Colmes” notebook.

Senator Rick Santorum was obviously the president of the Dungeons & Dragons Club in high school. In an interview with the editorial board of the Bucks County Courier-Times of Pennsylvania, Santorum referenced "The Lord of the Rings" to explain why the United States has avoided another terrorist attack since September 11.

Quote, "As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the eye of Mordor it's being drawn somewhere else. It's being drawn to Iraq, and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the eye to come back here to the United States."

And putting all partisanship aside I think we can all agree that nobody wants to see an army of trolls and orcs marching across the United States. Seriously.

But that's where the agreement ends, because Republicans are absolutely apoplectic about the possibility that Nancy Pelosi could be the next Speaker of the House. You would think she was the Dark Lord herself.

Joining us now is the man who hopes to keep that from happening by sending the congresswoman home in time for the holidays. Republican congressional candidate and Pelosi challenger, Mike DeNunzio.

Michael, thank you for coming on our show.

MICHAEL DENUNZIO (R), CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE: Good evening, Alan. Thank you for having me.

COLMES: Thank you, sir.

I keep hearing conservatives by knocking Nancy Pelosi saying she has "San Francisco values." What are "San Francisco values"?

DENUNZIO: Well, they're not American values when it comes to defending this country from terrorism, and that is the No. 1 issue that we've got to deal with.

More importantly, this election is about Nancy Pelosi, a wealthy San Francisco liberal who wants to become the Speaker of the House, the second in line from the presidency of the United States.

COLMES: Let me get this straight. Third in line, I believe. Let me get this straight. You want to be the congressman from San Francisco, and you just said your city where you want to represent does not have American values.

DENUNZIO: No, that's not what I said. What I said was every person in San Francisco, Democrat, liberal, independent, whatever they may be wants to stay alive. And they realize we're in a war, not a lawsuit. Mrs. Pelosi doesn't understand that. And that's what this election is about.

COLMES: Well, earlier said that those values, the "San Francisco values", were not defending America. But look, you said on your -- on some of your campaign literature.

DENUNZIO: They have a ballot measure on this year to impeach the commander-in-chief while we have 130,000 brave young men and women in the field.

COLMES: She doesn't, by the way. Let me correct you. Nancy Pelosi on May 11 in a meeting with her caucus said, and I quote, impeachment is off the table and that she is not interested in pursuing it. You keep making that claim. She has specifically said she would not do that.

DENUNZIO: What she said was, Alan, but "investigations are not off the table," and you never know where that leads to. And in order to have an impeachment, you have to start with an investigation.

COLMES: She says she's not going to do it sir. She was very clear about it. And you keep saying that she would do that as part of your campaigning. She has been clear that she would not do that. You're misrepresenting her position on this.

DENUNZIO: We have a ballot measure on the November 7 election calling for the impeachment of the president of the United States...

COLMES: Nancy Pelosi doesn't support that.

DENUNZIO: And that was put on by Democrats. They were not -- it was not put on by Republicans, Alan.

COLMES: Not Nancy Pelosi. -- Doesn't support that.

SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Mike, let's go over -- let's try to explain to people what San Francisco values are, because we have -- she's been in Congress a long time. She has a record.

She voted at least 31 times for using local or federal taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. She voted against a bill that would bar the transportation of a minor girl across state lines to obtain an abortion without the parental concept.

She voted at least eight times for banning -- against the ban of partial birth abortion. She voted against protecting the right to say "one nation under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance. Those are "San Francisco values."

DENUNZIO: Exactly.

HANNITY: Isn't that -- isn't that out of touch with mainstream America, and do you think most Americans know that?

DENUNZIO: Most Americans certainly know that. We remember that this is the city that was known as the San Francisco Democrats.

And remember, Mrs. Pelosi voted against a missile defense system. How does she feel about that now that the North Koreans are testing missiles that would destroy San Francisco?

HANNITY: I don't think -- you know, it's very funny, because I do a segment on my radio show which is "man on the street." And I asked people who is Nancy Pelosi? Most people don't know. They've never heard of her.

We're about to head into an election. She would be, as you point out, after the vice president, next in line to be president of the United States of America.

She voted against the final passage of the Patriot Act. Voted against building a wall to secure our country against illegal immigrants, possible terrorists coming into this country. She voted against the creation of a Homeland Security Department. Voted against the Patriot Act. Doesn't think we're at war.

It seems to me that somebody that does not fundamentally understand these are very consequential, very transformative times after 9/11. Do people do people of San Francisco know that?

DENUNZIO: You bet. You know, Sean, you left something out. She also doesn't understand America in the 21st Century competitive global economy.

She opposes tax cuts for working families and small businesses. These are the same tax cuts that have created 5 and a half million new jobs in the last 36 months.

Today, unemployment is a record 4.6 percent. The stock market is a record 12,000. More Americans own their own homes than ever before in history -- especially minorities.

HANNITY: How many times has she voted to raise taxes? Because by my account, she voted, for example, 19 times against the eliminating the "death tax" in her particular case. She's voted against every Republican tax cut. We know Charlie Rangel wants the -- doesn't want any of the Bush tax cuts to continue.

I just think fundamentally now it's time to just look at the positions. She's going to be in power. Who is this person? Where has she stood? You think?

DENUNZIO: Well she also...

HANNITY: Go ahead.

DENUNZIO: She also has a conflict of interest. Mrs. Pelosi is a very wealthy investor who has investments in a vineyard, who has investments in a luxury hotel, who has investments in a non-union restaurant.

All of these investments deal with immigrant labor. She is in a position of making decisions on whether we will have border security or whether we will have amnesty.

COLMES: I can't wait for her to be that a position.

DENUNZIO: All which would affect her immigrant employees.

COLMES: All right, sir. She is a capitalist like most of us here in America. We thank you very much for being with us.
