BOGOTA, Colombia – A senior Colombian official says Colombia and Ecuador are restoring diplomatic relations at the level of charges d'affaires.
The move follows mediation efforts by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
Ecuador had broken ties in anger after a cross-border Colombian military raid on March 1 in which a senior Colombian rebel was killed.
The Colombian official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose the information.
The official spoke to The Associated Press on Friday after the Carter Center in Atlanta issued a statement saying both President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia and Rafael Correa of Ecuador had "confirmed their willingness" to restore ties.
