Los Angeles authorities investigating a possible carjacking Tuesday are in a standoff with a suspect whose handgun was taken away by a police robot after an exchange of gunfire.
The situation unfolded after reports came in about 10:01 a.m. Tuesday that one person had been shot inside a stolen car and an on-scene officer needed backup, according to MyFoxLA.com.
Police chased the vehicle before cornering the suspect about 5 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, when the gunbattle ensued.
The suspect had been armed with a semiautomatic handgun, LAPD spokesman Bruce Borihahn told Fox News Tuesday morning.
Authorities later managed to seize the gun using a police robot. The standoff was still going on.
