South African police say a Canadian couple was stabbed and robbed while hiking.

The South African Press Association quoted Western Cape police Inspector November Filander as saying two men stoned, stabbed and robbed the couple, a 59-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, of their jewelry and digital cameras on Tuesday morning while they were hiking in a nature reserve in western South Africa.

A group of hikers found the couple tied up with their shoe laces and took them to a hospital. Police in helicopters searched the area, but did not find the robbers.

A city official in the area, Werner Zybrands, said Wednesday the couple was in satisfactory condition and would soon be discharged from the hospital.
