DAVENPORT, Calif. – Remaining evacuees are being allowed to return to their homes in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where a wildfire is expected to be contained by the weekend.
State fire officials say there's no longer any threat to structures in the area. The blaze, which consumed more than 7,000 acres, or about 11.5 square miles, is 80 percent contained.
The fire prompted the mandatory evacuation of more than 2,200 people in the communities of Bonny Doon, Swanton and Last Chance Road last week.
A wildfire that has charred nearly 4,000 acres, or 6 square miles, in the Sierra Nevada foothills is 85 percent contained, after destroying two Yuba County homes.
And a blaze in Santa Barbara County that has spread to more than 89,000 acres, or 139 square miles, is 94 percent contained.
