A high school student who was ordered to conceal a marijuana leaf pendant was arrested for putting his teacher in a headlock and dislocating his shoulder after the teacher confiscated the chain, authorities said.

The Zoe Barnum High School student allegedly swept the teacher from his feet April 28 and beat him until another student broke it up.

The boy, who was released Tuesday from Juvenile Hall, faces charges of felony battery on a school teacher and assault, said prosecutor Stacey Eads.

The student, whose name was not released, had been told several times to hide the chain under his clothing so other students couldn't see it.

"The actual attack occurred when the teacher was initially attempting to return the necklace to the student," Eads said.

The school district declined to comment.
