Mexican prosecutors say last week's murder of a Southern California school board member bore the hallmarks of a cartel hit.

A Durango state Attorney General's Office spokesman who is not authorized to be quoted by name says authorities suspect drug gangs' involvement in the killing of 33-year-old Augustin Roberto "Bobby" Salcedo.

He said Monday that investigators have not established whether Salcedo or any of the five men kidnapped and killed along with him had links to organized crime

Salcedo was an assistant high school principal and a two-term school board member in El Monte, near Los Angeles.

A vigil is scheduled for Monday night in El Monte. Arrangements are being made to repatriate Salcedo's body.
