Molly, a tame mule described as more a dog than mule, died of a gunshot wound this week and a resident is offering a $500 reward for information leading to her killer.

Molly was shot in the belly with a high-powered rifle Thursday morning and left to bleed in a pasture. Teller County sheriff's investigators suspect a poacher mistook Molly for an elk.

Gary Bieske, owner of the Pike's Peak Resort where Molly was pastured, is offering the reward. Bieske said Molly would lay down next to a campfire whenever he took her on hunting and fishing trips.

Molly would follow commands and parents often allowed their children to ride her bareback.
