A 30-year-old East Los Angeles man has been charged with murder after police say he stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death with an ice pick because she wouldn't get back together with him.

Fredy Hernandez was charged Thursday with one count of murder with the allegation that he used a deadly and dangerous weapon in Doris Salguero's death.

Prosecutors allege Hernandez stabbed the 24-year-old Salguero on Sunday following a holiday gathering that they both attended. Salguero's body was found in the back seat of her parked car.

Investigators say they suspect Hernandez killed her because she refused to rekindle their relationship.

Hernandez is being held on $1 million bail. Prosecutors say he faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted on all counts.

Arraignment is set for Jan. 7.
