The nation's two largest cable companies plan to offer packages of family-friendly channels.

Comcast and Time Warner are being joined by other cable companies.

It's part of an effort to give parents another way to protect their children from sex, rough language and violence.

The move comes about two weeks after the head of the FCC said the industry wasn't doing enough.

He didn't have an estimate on the cost.

Some lawmakers have been threatening legislation if the industry doesn't do its part to protect children from indecent and violent programming.
