CRAWFORD, Texas – President Bush (search) has nominated one of his deputy press secretaries to be the State Department spokesman, a main public face of diplomacy for the administration.
Sean McCormack (search) served as deputy White House press secretary for foreign policy and was spokesman for Condoleezza Rice (search) when she was national security adviser. He moved with Rice when she left the White House to head the State Department earlier this year.
If confirmed, McCormack would have the title of assistant secretary of state for public affairs. He would replace State Department spokesman Richard Boucher (search), who gives daily press briefings that are often broadcast nationally and throughout the world on television.
McCormack is a member of the Foreign Service and has worked at U.S. embassies in Algeria and Turkey. He has a bachelor's degree from Colby College and a master's degree from the University of Maryland.
