A small brush fire has broken out next to the Pasadena Freeway in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Montecito Heights.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Eric Scott says the blaze broke out at about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The flames have burned less than half an acre of brush but are threatening homes next to the Arroyo Seco.

About 75 firefighters are on the scene northeast of downtown.
