Authorities in Allegan County say a pipe bomb made from old fireworks exploded in the hand of a 23-year-old man, injuring him and his 15-year-old brother.

The sheriff's department reports it was called to a home in Lee Township on Monday night following a report of a blast. The department says the pair said they made the bomb and the fuse burned too quickly.

The department says the older brother had severe injuries to his hand and an ankle fracture from shrapnel, and was undergoing surgery early Tuesday. The 15-year-old had flash burns and shrapnel injuries to his face.

Their names and conditions weren't immediately released.

Another pipe bomb was found at the southwest Michigan home, and it was removed by a Michigan State Police bomb squad.
