An 11-year-old Mexican boy is believed to have become the world's youngest matador to kill six young bulls in a single fight, the BBC reported.

But the boy's victory was marred with controversy because authorities say it is illegal for those under the age of 18 to take part in high-risk public performances such as bullfighting.

The mayor of the town where the bullfight took place had suspended it, but hours before the fight, the Yucatan State Prosecutor's Office overturned the ban after the boy's father, an ex-French bullfighter, asked for an appeal.

"I'm happy to have achieved this great victory," said Michelito Lagravere Peniche as he left the ring in Merida.

The Guinness World Records will be reviewing a tape of Sunday's fight.
