Rescuers say a full-face helmet saved the life of a 10-year-old boy who fell at least 50 feet down a ravine riding a four-wheeler.

The boy fell while riding his all-terrain-vehicle on Hardscrabble Mountain in Eagle County on Sunday afternoon. He was four-wheeling with family members when the boy lost control and rolled 50 feet to 75 feet down an embankment. The boy was airlifted to a hospital with a broken leg.

Authorities say his injuries would likely have been much more serious if he had not been wearing a full-face helmet. The child was not identified.
