A man drove a truck into the entrance of a closed convenience story early Friday in an apparent burglary attempt, then holed up in a six-hour standoff with police that ended when officers stormed the store and arrested him, authorities said.

After officers responded to a 5:40 a.m. burglary call, they found a man who appeared to have a shotgun or rifle trying to remove the cash register, said Houston Police spokesman Gabriel Ortiz.

The suspect told the officers he wasn't coming out, Ortiz said. Police then surrounded the store and called a SWAT team, and tried several times to make contact with the man.

Around noon, officers stormed the store and took the man into custody. There were no reports of injuries.
