Police say a homicide bomber blew himself up outside a sports stadium in Pakistan's militant-plagued northwest, wounding seven people.

The blast occurred at the main gate of the Peshawar Sports Complex, which was hosting the Inter-Provincial Games, a sporting event that draws athletes from around the country.

Footage on Pakistan's Express News channel showed damaged vehicles, shattered glass and a string of lights sprawled on the ground.

Senior police official Mohammad Suleman said the attack occurred shortly after the concluding ceremony of the games.

Peshawar is the main city in Pakistan's northwest, where Al Qaeda and Taliban militants have staged a wave of attacks in recent years.
