BUFORD, Ga. – Authorities say a body found in a wooded area near Buford had been decapitated and dismembered at the thighs and upper arms.
Gwinnett County police still had not identified the man on Friday. The Medical Examiner's Office said the dismemberment followed death, and there were no obvious injuries to the torso.
The man was wearing large size Tommy Hilfiger boxer shorts.
An area resident entered the woods Wednesday night after detecting a foul odor and found the decomposing body partially wrapped in plastic a short distance from the roadway.
Police say the man had been dead for more than a week.
