Bette Midler has lashed out at Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, calling the pair "wild and woolly sluts."

“I’ve been on the other side to these wild and wooly sluts that we are seeing around our lives these days," Midler, 61, told the entertainment TV show "Extra," alluding to Spears' and Hilton’s recent out-on-the town antics. "I’ve taken the other side … I started my life out as pretty wild, but I have decided after much growing and living that its time that we got nicer!”

Referring to the duo's penchant for going without panties, Midler joked:

“And I’m wearing underwear…a lot of underwear. In fact, I’m wearing all the underwear that those girls are not wearing, at least two bras and several pairs of panties.”

She also had some advice for the younger women.

“Girls get a life, get a grip. I mean someone should sit those ladies down," she said while out promoting her CD, "Bette Midler Cool Yule."

On Thursday, Spears posted a message on the home page of her Web site for the first time since photos of her private parts appeared on the Internet.

Spears took a playful approach in the message, asking fans to understand that babymaking has prevented her from partying with pals and thanking God for "Victoria's Secrets' (sic) new underwear line."

The message reads as follows:

"It's been so long since I've been out on the town with friends. It's also been 2 years since I celebrated my birthday. Every move I make at this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did take my new found (sic) freedom a little too far. Anyway, thank God for Victoria's Secrets' new underwear line! I look forward to a new year, new music and a new me.

I'm just getting started....Happy Holidays everyone!

Spears, who turned 25 on Dec. 2, filed for divorce last month from aspiring rapper Kevin Federline, 28, after two years of marriage.

She and Federline have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and an infant son, Jayden James, who was born Sept. 12.

Spears is seeking custody of both children, with visitation rights for Federline.
