Looking for Evil

Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tony Kushner's commencement address at Vassar College focused on his definition of evil. Kushner said, "when you despair, you open the door to evil and evil is always happy to enter, sit down and abolish the Clean Air Act and the Kyoto accords… and evil will sit there carefully chewing pretzels and fondly flipping through the scrapbook reminiscing about the 131 people he executed while he was governor."

Wonder who he meant?

A Clothes Encounter

The New York Daily News reports that would be suicide murderer Tawriya Hamamrah balked when her time came to undertake the deadly act. The 25-year-old resident of a village near the West Bank town of Jenin says, "they wanted me to have my hair loose, wear sunglasses, make-up and tight clothes." She adds, "I said no because it's against my religion."

Hamamrah has since had a change of heart about martyrdom saying, "women who want to wage jihad should start a family and have children."

A Tough Fight

Georgia Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who flatly accused President Bush of knowing about the September 11 attacks in advance, is facing a tough re-election fight.

A new poll has her approval rating at 38 percent and shows her trailing her August primary opponent, DeKalb County judge Denise Majette.

A Steep Curve

In Palm Beach County, Florida, where the art of voting has been challenging, the high school introduced a new final history exam this week.
