LOS ANGELES – Robbers who fled a Santa Clarita, Calif., bank Friday and triggered an extensive search for two male suspects in a residential area surrendered to police.
Law enforcement officers swarmed the Granada Hills neighborhood earlier in the day looking for the men who they believed also abandoned a getaway car in the San Fernando Valley,
A 911 caller reported a robbery in progress at a Washington Mutual bank branch in Santa Clarita shortly after 9 a.m. and described the getaway vehicle, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Mike Dunkle.
The car, with three people inside, was pursued down Interstate 5 to westbound Highway 118, where it exited in Granada Hills, Dunkle said.
The car stopped and two people ran off. The female driver was taken into custody and questioned.
Residents were advised to stay indoors and report anything unusual. Several schools were put on lockdown.
