A Fulton County grand jury has charged a veteran Atlanta police officer with molesting a 12-year-old girl.

A press release says Wilson Cartaffin was charged Friday with two counts each of child molestation and sexual battery and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes. The 42-year-old met the girl while working a part-time job as an investigator at Long Middle School.

Police believe the incident happened Nov. 30 in Cartaffin's personal car away from school. Cartaffin, who has been with the police department 16 years, has been suspended with pay pending a hearing next week.

"It disturbs me and every other police officer in Atlanta when such allegations arise," Chief Richard J. Pennington told MyFoxAtlanta.com. "Children are told to trust police officers. This is an apparent heinous abuse of that trust."
