Now that's a wild baby name.
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz welcomed a baby boy late Thursday.
Bronx Mowgli Wentz - yes, Bronx Mowgli - was born Thursday evening, weighing 7 lbs., 11 oz., and measuring 20 1/2 inches long.
The Bronx part we get, its a borough in New York, the Yankees play there, done.
Now on to Mowgli. Some quick Internet research reveals one possible Mowgli origination - he was a character in the Rudyard Kipling story "In the Rukh," and more famously in his "Jungle Book" series popularized onscreen by Disney.
It's also the name of a hair salon on London's Primrose Hill.
We give each origination a 50/50 shot.
Regardless, everyone in the Simpson-Wentz household is doing great. "Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes," a spokesperson told People.
After much speculation, the couple confirmed they were expecting a child in late May.
"We wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child," a statement written on Wentz's blog said. "This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."
The pair wed in early May at Simpson's parents' Los-Angeles area home.
