Dear Viewers,

With this daily blog, I always try to give you a "behind the scenes" look at this business. This is another inside look.

Have you seen the recent news articles about awards to cable news organizations? In at least two articles I read that Fox News Channel didn't get any of the awards. You might think from reading those articles that we were determined not to be the best and hence no awards. I could not help but be amused by the suggestion. There is a very good reason FNC did not get any of these awards and won't in the near future.

We don't apply for the awards and if you don't apply, you won't get any. Many awards in the media business require the news organizations to submit tapes to compete for the awards. When I first got to FNC I was told that we don't apply for awards.

On occasion you will see that FNC anchors or correspondents get awards but those are the awards where you don't submit a tape and ask to compete.

As an aside, I congratulate my colleagues in the competing cable news business who did win the awards. I know many of them and they work hard -- we all do in this business!
