A marine who lost his legs in Afghanistan is getting married — after proposing on bended knee.

Pete Dunning, 25, was determined to stick to tradition when he asked for Laura Burton's hand in marriage.

Fortunately, his new prosthetic legs were up to the task, and she said yes.

"When I lost my legs I thought something like this could never happen," Dunning said.

"But I got through it. Laura is brilliant and loves me for me. I couldn't ask for more."

"When he got down I thought, 'Oh my God, he's going to get stuck'. But he managed it. He's great," Burton, 25, said.

The couple plan to marry in spring of 2012.

"To be honest, I think the accident changed him for the better in a funny way. He is so grounded now. I'm very proud to be marrying him," Burton said.
