Americans heading out for the holiday weekend will have lots of company.

AAA (search) said 40 million people will be traveling this weekend, with about 87 percent of them on the highways.

Spokesman Justin McNaull said even though the price of gasoline is averaging around $1.90, the highest ever for a July Fourth weekend, it doesn't seem to be keeping people out of their cars.

McNaull advised people who are flying to allow plenty of time. He said delays were running up to four hours at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport (search) on Thursday.
