A Look Back at the 2008 Election

HEATHER NAUERT, CO-HOST: If you have been watching here at the FOX NEWS Channel or any place else, you certainly know that it has been the longest presidential election season of all time. Before we let you go, I'd like to take a look back at some of the most memorable moments of campaign 2008. And our Douglas Kennedy has that for us now.

DOUGLAS KENNEDY, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT (voice over): 2008's presidential election promises a historical outcome.

GOV. SARAH PALIN (R-AK), VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I accept the challenge of a tough fight.

KENNEDY: But it also had some of campaign history's most memorable moments from a plumber named Joe -

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN (R-AZ), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Joe is with us today. Joe, where are you? Where is Joe? Is Joe here with us today?

KENNEDY: To a very revved up reverend.

REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT, PASTOR, TRINITY UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST: Barack Hussein Obama. Barack Hussein Obama. Barack Hussein Obama.

KENNEDY: It was in this election we first saw a candidate do a fist bump and first heard about the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull.

PALIN: The difference between a hockey mom and pit bull - lipstick.

KENNEDY: It was also the first time a president's wife ran for president herself -

SEN. HILLARY CLINTON (D-NY), FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Well, I'm Hillary Clinton and I'm running for president.

KENNEDY: Which, at times, put a former president in an unflattering spotlight.

BILL CLINTON, FORMER UNITED STATES PRESIDENT: I thought he was running against me in Nevada for a while.

(CROSS TALK)

KENNEDY: And at one point, led to a former first lady's tears.

H. CLINTON: You know, this is very personal for me.

KENNEDY: Quickly followed by a gun-toting ad.

OBAMA: She's talking like she's Annie Oakley.

KENNEDY: And a shot of whiskey with the boys - saw Obama dancing on "Ellen" and one of Obama's early supporters dancing and singing on the Internet.

AMBER LEE ETTINGER, "OBAMA GIRL" (singing): Because I've got a crush on Obama

KENNEDY: But as in years past, it was "Saturday Night Live" that captured some of the campaign's most iconic moments.

PALIN: Live from New York, it's Saturday night!

KENNEDY: Like a McCain supporter's inane question -

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE MCCAIN SUPPORTER: He's not - he's not-

KENNEDY: Or McCain himself walking in front of the camera during the debate.

TOM BROKAW, DEBATE MODERATOR: And you're in the way of my script.

CHRIS PARNELL, ACTOR (as Tom Brokaw): You're blocking my prompter there.

KENNEDY: But the be all and end all had to be Tina Fey's exquisite impersonation of Sarah Palin getting grilled by Katie Couric.

TINA FEY, ACTRESS (as Sarah Palin): Every morning, when Alaskans wake up, one of the first things they do is look outside to see if there are any Russians hanging around.
