Eight people were shot at a crowded downtown nightclub early Monday, including three who were critically wounded, police said.

About 400 people were in the Touch nightclub in the city's Strip District when the shooting happened around 1:15 a.m., police said. Seven people were taken to hospitals and the eighth one walked in, police said.

Police Commander Thomas Stangrecki said three people were in critical condition.

A man was arrested at the scene for providing false information to law enforcement, police said. He was being questioned in the shootings.

"We'll find out what his involvement is," Stangrecki said.

One person in the club said chaos erupted when the shots rang out.

"I was in the club standing near the bathroom. Next thing I know, three shots just went off, bang, bang, bang," Sheena Smith told KDKA-TV. "People go flying in the back. Some guy's grazed in the back of the head, blood everywhere."
