Authorities say eight men suffered minor injuries after lightning struck the ground in a peach orchard in South Carolina.

Cooley Springs-Fingerville Fire Department Assistant Chief Tony Phillips told the Herald-Journal of Spartanburg County that the men sought shelter Tuesday evening as a storm gathered.

Phillips said the bolt struck the dirt at the men's feet, knocking them to the ground.

Most of the victims suffered minor burns, blisters on their feet or tingling, according to Phillips. He said a few struggled to stand.

Orchard owner James Cooley said the men were up and talking a few hours after they were struck by lightning, and are all expected to recover.
