— Meryl Streep received her 12th acting nomination, for Music of the Heart, tying Katharine Hepburn, who has held this record for 18 years. Hepburn holds the record for most acting Oscars with four.

— John Williams' Oscar nomination for the Angela's Ashes score will be his 38th, making the composer the most nominated living person.

— Richard Farnsworth's nomination for The Straight Story makes him the oldest leading actor nominee in academy history at 79.
