Rated at 15 mpg city/20 highway, they’re not exactly economy cars, but the base 4.3-liter Vortec V-6 puts out a reasonable 195 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and can tow around 5,000 pounds. A 4-speed automatic is the standard transmission.
Starting at $18,515 the pair have won a number of awards, and the Silverado was named North American Truck of the Year for 2007. For 2009 they will be available with a hybrid V-8 powertrain, but at an estimated $35,000 the fuel savings (21 city/22 highway) are going to cost you.
Sharing the #5 spot is the Honda Ridgeline. We know, truck guys, it's not really a truck, just a car that looks like a truck. So what? With a 247 hp V-6 it can tow nearly as much as the GM twins and has a payload capacity on par with the #1 truck on our list. Unfortunately, it also has the highest sticker price, $28,000. Look on the bright side. With a lighter wallet, you'll be able to carry more stuff.
