A single engine six-seater plane crashed in an Oklahoma park Saturday, killing five people, including two children. No one on the ground was hurt.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol told FOX News that the Dallas-bound plane went down in the area of Tulsa's Chandler Park at about 10:40 a.m., minutes after takeoff from Jones Riverside Airport.
Two men, a woman and two girls were pronounced dead at the scene, said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. George Brown said.
The six-passenger Piper apparently hit a cable attached to a telecommunications tower before it went down, Brown said. Witnesses reported hearing a loud popping noise before the crash.
Brown said the plane was taking off in rainy, foggy conditions.
"It's our belief that the pilot possibly did not see that tower or the guide wires as it was obscured by fog," he told FOX News.
The aircraft broke apart into several pieces and burst into flames upon impact, according to NewsOn6. Two of the victims ejected and the other three stayed inside the plane.
The identity of the victims wasn't immediately available.
