Two U.S. soldiers were killed in the Baghdad area when roadside bombs struck their Humvees on Saturday in separate attacks, the military said.

One soldier, whose unit was not identified, died in Baghdad's Sadr City, according to a statement. The soldier's name was being held pending notification of next of kin.

A second soldier died when his truck in southern Baghdad, the military said.

The deaths raised to at least 2,549 members of the U.S. military who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
