A security official says two foreign tourists fell to their deaths while parasailing south of Mexico's resort town of Cancun.

Local Deputy Attorney General Luis Canche says the two women were killed when the rope tying their parachute to a speed boat snapped. The women were hurled onto rocks on shore. A third woman fell into the water and survived.

Canche says he could not confirm news reports that the women were Americans.

A man who answered the telephone at the home of Margaret Beaman in Carrollton, Texas, confirmed she was one of the women who died at the accident. The man said the family would have no comment.

The accident happened Sunday in Akumal, a resort town 75 miles south of Cancun.
