Two South Carolina men are undergoing rabies treatment after they were attacked by bobcats.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports the first attack happened Tuesday night and officials say the person needed 16 stitches. That bobcat escaped.

Authorities say the second attack happened about three hours later The man was bitten and scratched while he was clearing land and managed to kill the animal, which tested positive for rabies.

The state Department of Health And Environmental Control says it is the first rabid animal found in Orangeburg County this year.

So far in 2009, DHEC has found 57 rabid animals in the state.
