A veterinarian says two cats have died after an explosion and fire tore through a Massachusetts animal hospital.

Scott Munson of the Cape Cod Animal Hospital tells the Cape Cod Times that a dozen dogs were rescued, but one dog remains missing.

Munson and other rescuers broke the kennel door with a cinder block so the animals could run out of the building in Barnstable, about 5 miles north of the Kennedy family's Hyannis Port home.

There are no reports of injuries to people.

Fire officials say the Monday night fire started in the main veterinary offices, but they still don't have an exact cause. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
